Patchouli’s earthy, sensual, woody note is exceptional. It cannot be substituted with any synthetically produced fragrance. Thus, the (sub-) tropical herb is basically grown only for essential oil production. 90% of all harvested patchouli enhances the fragrance of the best perfumes in the world. In the 1970s patchouli was the trademark fragrance within the flower power movement, mainly because its scent helped cover up the smell of cannabis. The oil is popular in mixtures for meditation. It is able to calm irritations. Mosquitoes or moths dislike the heavy scent.
